History of the Atomic Bomb (Pg 2)

The first ever atomic bomb was tested in New Mexico on July 16th 1945. Late May of 1945 the United States was and Japan were engaged in heavy fighting at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The japanese had bombed pearl harbor just a few years before, and Americans were still mad about this. The Unite States wanted to quickly conclude this war, and the japanese were not about to give up. This left Truman with a fateful decision; should he drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki Japan? Truman warned the Japanese that if they did not surrender he would do something tragic. After the Japanese leaders rejected the Postdam Declaration, Truman made the decision to definitley drop the atomic bomb on Japan. The U.S airforce dropped the bomb, nick named "Littleboy" on Hiroshima, August 6th, 1945. 70,000 Japanese died instataneously from just the heat alone. Then, three days later, a second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki Japan, from that 20,000 died instantly. Thousands more died from after affects from these TNT loaded atomic bombs.
